The Microtia and Atresia Program at Texas Children’s Hospital has been caring for children with deformities of the inner and outer ear since 2008. In addition to best-in-class repair and reconstruction services, we offer a multidisciplinary team approach where we work closely with patients and their families to create personalized, comprehensive treatment plans.
A team of surgeons, audiologists, therapists and patient care coordinators provide the following diagnostic and assessment services:
- Medical evaluation of patients with microtia and aural atresia
- Behavioral audiograms
- Natural sleep and sedated auditory brainstem response (ABR) tests
- Hearing aid consultations
- Fitting and programming of bone conduction devices and conventional hearing aids
- Consultations with other medical and surgical specialties as needed
- Onsite radiology and laboratory services
- Discussion of an individualized plan of care for each patient
- Dedicated coordinator to facilitate follow-up tests and appointments
Our otolaryngologists (ENTs) and plastic surgeons work hand-in-hand to provide highly specialized surgical solutions for microtia patients, including:
- Microtia reconstruction
- Aural atresia repair
- Bone conduction device implantation
- Otoplasty for protruding ears and other deformities
- Ear splinting (molding)
