Ultrasound Fetal Imaging

Advanced ultrasound imaging

Prenatal ultrasound provides you with pictures of your baby before birth, but it also helps identify possible health problems as early as possible. At Texas Children’s Pavilion for Women, we use advanced fetal ultrasound to help guide your and your baby’s care throughout your pregnancy and after delivery.

Nationally and internationally known leaders in fetal medicine

You and your baby receive care from maternal-fetal medicine specialists (Ob/Gyns who specialize in high-risk pregnancy care) and their teams, including fetal imaging experts. Families come to us because we offer:

  • The most advanced prenatal care: Texas Children’s Fetal Center™ is one of only a few in the world that offer the full spectrum of fetal diagnostic testing and treatments. You have access to care that isn’t widely available at other medical centers or children’s hospitals.
  • Advanced prenatal diagnostic testing: Our specialists use the latest diagnostic tests and procedures, including ultrasound, to assess the health of your unborn baby. Many techniques are noninvasive or minimally invasive, with little discomfort so you can get back to your day.
  • Support when you need it: Our prenatal genetic counselors can explain the purpose of ultrasound to you and your family. If specialists identify a health issue, our genetic counselors are here to offer you and your family compassionate support.

Fetal imaging techniques we offer

Our fetal imaging technicians have specialized training in advanced ultrasound technologies and techniques that focus on specific areas of your baby’s health. Our imaging procedures include:

  • Noninvasive procedures: Ultrasound is an effective, noninvasive diagnostic test that uses sound waves to create pictures of your unborn baby. We also use ultrasound to check for any health issues inside your uterus (womb).
  • Comprehensive testing: Our specialists use fetal imaging to measure your baby’s growth and screen for congenital (present at birth) conditions. We use 3D and 4D ultrasound for more detailed views of your unborn baby.
  • Fetal echocardiography: Heart ultrasound imaging uses a targeted form of ultrasound to view your baby’s heart in real time. Our specialists use these images to evaluate your baby’s heart for congenital heart conditions.
