Specialists at Texas Children's successfully administered botulinum toxin (Botox) in the mother's womb to treat a baby diagnosed with gastroschisis, a condition in which the intestines develop outside the abdomen. The innovative procedure relaxed the muscles of the abdominal wall and prevented the defect from obstructing vital arteries. Following her birth and a subsequent surgery, the child reached nearly one year of age in excellent health.
