Personal Statement
Sandy Jose, DNP, APRN, NNP-BC is a board certified Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (NNP) in the Level IV Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Texas Children’s Hospital. Her passion for quality improvement (QI) has helped improve neurodevelopmental outcomes for preterm neonates by reducing the risk for intraventricular hemorrhage (IVH) through the establishment of her “Mindful of Preemies” protocol. She was also a key stakeholder for the development of Neuro-Protective Guidelines for the Small Baby Unit (SBU) Program for Extremely Low Gestational Age Newborns (ELGANs) and Extremely Low Birth Weight (ELBW) neonates at the Pavilion for Women NICU. In addition, she continues to actively participate in various QI initiatives within the NICU.
Sandy serves as a member of the NNP Interview Panel. She is involved with the training of NNP students, preceptorship of new hires, and offers mentorship role for new NNPs. She closely collaborates with Baylor Physicians, multidisciplinary teams, and has been involved with the onboarding training of NICU Hospitalists. Additionally, her NNP role allows for her to assist with inter-hospital transports of critically ill neonates requiring higher level of care.
Other Interests
Sandy completed training and received her certification for EPIC Physician Builder course in 2018 from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She is one of the primary EPIC builders for the department of Neonatology. Sandy is also the Chair of Note Committee for the NNP service. Through her work, there is improved efficiency of entering patient orders, improved quality and effectiveness of patient care notes, and improved communication during handoff for patients requiring surgical interventions.
