Get to know Rohan C. Bhavane, PhD
Dr. Rohan Bhavane graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Mumbai, India in 1998. After completing a Master’s in Chemical Engineering from Cleveland State University in 2002, he received his Ph.D. from the School of Biomedical Informatics (SBMI) at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHSCH) in 2006. He was a postdoctoral fellow in the Department of Nanomedicine at the Institute of Molecular Medicine at UTHSCH from 2006-09, following which he completed postdoctoral work in SBMI at UTHSCH. In 2011 he joined the Edward B. Singleton Department of Pediatric Radiology as a Senior Research Scientist.
Dr. Bhavane’s research is in translational nanomedicine, focused on developing a patented smart insulin technology for treating diabetes and developing a Near-infrared imaging system for early detection of necrotizing enterocolitis in preterm babies. In addition, he has expertise in the development of CT and MR based nanoparticles for tumor detection and monitoring, and detection of vulnerable atherosclerotic plaques.
