Personal Statement
My career has been shaped by a steadfast commitment to advancing pediatric critical care through compassionate clinical service, dedicated mentorship and impactful academic work. Since completing my fellowship, I have remained at Baylor College of Medicine and Texas Children’s Hospital, where I have had the privilege of growing within an exceptional community of colleagues, learners, and collaborators.
Over the years, I have taken on diverse leadership roles, including over a decade as Program Director of our Pediatric Critical Care Fellowship Program and now as Associate Chief for Academic Affairs and Education. These roles have allowed me to develop and implement programs that strengthen our academic mission – such as the nationally adopted fellowship boot camp curriculum and the Family Care Journal initiative – and to graduate over 70 fellows, many of whom now hold leadership positions across the country and internationally.
Education and faculty development remain core passions of mine. I have been honored with multiple teaching and mentorship awards and strive to foster a collaborative, inclusive, and forward-thinking environment. My scholarly work reflects these values, with projects focused on simulation-based learning, point-of-care ultrasound and family-centered ICU care.
Beyond our institution, I remain actively engaged in national efforts to advance pediatric critical care and medical education. I was inducted as a Fellow of the American College of Critical Care Medicine (FCCM) in recognition of sustained contributions to the field. For the past four years, I have served on the ACCM Credentials Committee of the Society of Critical Care Medicine and was recently elected Vice Chair/Chair-Elect. In this role, I help lead the review and recommendation process for new FCCM inductees to the Board of Regents.
At this stage in my career, I am deeply committed to sustaining and evolving the academic culture within our division, supporting the growth of junior faculty and contributing meaningfully to national conversations that shape the future of pediatric critical care. I am grateful for the opportunities I have had and remain energized by the work ahead.
