Get to know Bryan Cannon, MD
Dr. Bryan Cannon is a board-certified pediatric cardiologist and adult congenital cardiologist. He was born in Lubbock, Texas and graduated magna cum laude at Texas Christian University. He went to medical school at the University of Texas, Southwestern where he was Alpha Omega Alpha. He did his residency at Baylor College of Medicine and served a year as Chief Resident. He did his pediatric cardiology fellowship at Baylor with subspecialty training in heart failure and transplant as well as electrophysiology.
He was on the faculty at Texas Children’s Hospital for 7 years. He then went to the Mayo Clinic where he was a Professor of Pediatrics, Chair of the Pediatric Arrhythmias and Pacing Service and Vice-Chair for Education for the Department of Pediatrics. He also served as the director of the Pediatric Cardiology Fellowship Training Program.
Dr. Cannon has won four teaching awards, one at Texas Children’s and three at Mayo and was given the Lifetime Outstanding Educator Award by the Department of Pediatrics. He was also named by Minnesota Monthly as a peer selected top doctor 7 times (2015-2022).
He is certified in pediatric electrophysiology and cardiac device therapy by the International Board of Heart Rhythm Examiners and has served as President of the Pediatric and Congenital Electrophysiology Society (PACES), the national organization for pediatric heart rhythm specialists.
He has published over 100 articles and 30 book chapters. Dr. Cannon also is the editor of three textbooks including three international consensus statements and an American Academy of Pediatrics Policy Statement on Sudden Cardiac Death in Young Patients.
Personal Statement
I am committed to providing the highest quality of care with the most recent technological advances for all patients I care for. I am concerned about patients and their lives in and out of the medical system. I have been involved in pediatric electrophysiology for over 20 years. I have been involved in multiple camps for children with medical conditions including Camp Periwinkle, Camp Pump It Up, Camp YOLO and Camp Odayin, and I have won two service awards for my participation and leadership in these camps.
