Self-care is part of parenting

Caregivers of children with special needs often experience extremely high levels of stress. Caring for a child with special needs generally requires 24-hour supervision, attention and care. Caregivers often have limited options for self-care, as many families cannot afford to hire reputable in-home providers to care for their children while they take a much-needed break.

Respite services can include in-home services, family day out events and parents’ night out events. Many of these opportunities offer not only a break for the caregivers, but a much-needed break for children as well. Opportunities are available in Houston and will vary based on your child’s diagnoses, age and abilities.
