I have asked myself more times than I can remember why I wanted to be a doctor. Honestly, I don’t have a simple answer to that. When I was a child, I was always fascinated by any encounters with health care – whether it involved myself or a family member, and unlike many other children, I used to find hospital or clinic visits intriguing. I would walk away with brochures on all sorts of bizarre conditions and read them in my own time. As I got a little older, and learned more about science at school, this weird fascination turned into a genuine interest in health, disease and cure.
What I like most about being a doctor is the fast-paced hospital environment, and in my job there is literally never a dull moment. No two days are the same and no two patients are alike. Making a difference to sick children and their families is a privilege and I am on a constant journey to improve my knowledge and the health of our patients through research and learning.
I am extremely grateful to work at Texas Children’s. The very first time I walked into the hospital, I was struck by how every single person was proud and excited to be a member of the Texas Children’s family. The philosophy is always to strive for the very best - for our patients, families and for our teams. We are all excited to be at the cutting edge of pediatric health care, and to be innovative while providing the best possible environment in which to do this.
While medicine is not an easy option, it requires passion, dedication and hard work; it ultimately is an intensely satisfying and rewarding career.
