Brachial Plexus Clinic

Patient Resources

What to expect

During your first visit, you and your child will meet with a multidisciplinary team of providers who will create a treatment plan. They’ll gather information about your child, the brachial plexus injury and perform a physical exam. You’ll have the opportunity to ask questions so that by the end of the visit, when a treatment plan is presented, you fully understand how to care for your child.

Your treatment plan may include:

  • Follow-up appointments at the clinic
  • Further imaging to help guide treatment
  • Referrals to other specialists as needed
  • Specific therapy recommendations such as physical, occupational or speech therapy

Helpful tips for the first appointment

Please arrive 15 minutes early for your first appointment so that you have plenty of time for parking and arriving at the 5th floor of the Texas Children’s Hospital - West Campus.

We recommend leaving any siblings at home so that you and our clinic team can focus on your child being evaluated. If that’s not possible, please try to bring someone to care for siblings while you’re in the clinic with your injured child and the team.

What to bring

  • Your child’s favorite toy or games to assist in the evaluation process
  • Water and a favorite snack in case your child is hungry; bring a bottle if your child takes one
  • Copies of your child’s most recent ultrasound, X-ray, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scan, computed tomography (CT) scan and any other test results related to his or her condition
  • Any orthoses/splints/braces your child is currently wearing or that have been provided in the past
  • If you’re a legal guardian and not a parent, bring proof of legal guardianship
