Foster Care

The Foster Care Clinic at Texas Children’s Hospital is dedicated to providing care for children in Foster Care as well as those in at-risk social situations. Services may include:

  • Provide 72 hour medical evaluations for children newly placed in foster care (As recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics)
  • Assess for signs of abuse/neglect
  • Assess for presence of chronic or acute illness
  • Assess for signs of acute or severe mental health problems
  • Monitor adjustment to foster care
  • Ensure each child has necessary medical equipment and medication
  • Support and educate parents (foster and birth) and kin
  • Conduct comprehensive 30 day Texas Health Steps exam
  • Provide case management and care coordination
  • Provide mental health screens and coordination of trauma informed care
