Neonatology

Programs and Services

We provide all services that critically ill or premature babies might need, including on-site neonatologists available 24/7, the highest level of respiratory support, advanced imaging, pediatric surgery, pediatric anesthesiology and more.

Therapeutic hypothermia, also called whole body cooling, is a medical treatment for newborns who are fewer than 6 hours old who have experienced a lack of oxygen and/or blood flow (hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy or HIE) to the brain and other organs before or during labor and delivery.

Because our Newborn Center is part of Texas Children's Hospital, you have the comfort of knowing that your baby will receive the best possible care with the compassion and family-focus that has made us one of the top-ranked children's hospitals in the nation.

Family-centered care means care that involves your whole family and includes social support and counseling in a respectful, compassionate environment. That’s what you and your family deserve and that’s what we offer in the Texas Children’s NICUs.

Your baby may receive a Physical Therapy (PT) / Occupational Therapy (OT) consult within five days of admission based on medical stability and diagnosis. Common reasons why a PT or OT provide therapy include prematurity, neurological involvement, respiratory concerns, cardiac disorders, gastrointestinal disorders, neural tube defect, cleft palate, or orthopedic/skeletal disorders.
