Vaccines are among medicine’s most significant achievements and have either eliminated or dramatically reduced many infectious diseases. Simply put, vaccines save lives. In the midst of a wave of vaccine hesitancy and uncertainty surrounding vaccines, the Texas Children's Hospital Vaccine Initiative remains committed to protecting children through vaccination. We trust the science and the overwhelming body of evidence demonstrating the safety and effectiveness of vaccines.
Core Activities
Through research, education, and advocacy, we seek to promote vaccine equity and access, and reduce vaccine-preventable diseases across our global community. You can learn more about our core activities by clicking on the “Programs and Services”, “Education” and “Research” sections of our website.
Expertise
The Vaccine Initiative is comprised of individuals within Texas Children’s Hospital, Texas Children’s Pediatrics, and Baylor College of Medicine with vaccine- or vaccine-preventable disease-related expertise. The core members of our group include vaccinologists, physician-scientists, epidemiologists, infectious disease specialists, pediatricians, public health experts, and thought leaders in the world of vaccines.
Learning – residents elective
In 2023, the Vaccine Initiative launched an elective for Baylor College of Medicine residents at Texas Children’s Hospital. The elective aims to increase pediatric resident knowledge and experience with regard to pediatric vaccines in the areas of vaccine scheduling, storage and handling, administration and hesitancy. The elective includes several hands-on learning activities including vaccine administration on the mobile clinics, vaccine storage audits at Texas Children’s Pediatrics practices, training to converse with vaccine hesitant parents in the Pavilion for Women’s mother baby units, and one-on-one discussions with faculty.
