The Texas Children’s Hospital William T. Shearer Center for Human Immunobiology was established to bring together world-class expertise in immunology in order to discover, investigate, and develop novel therapies for patients with immune disorders. We strive to improve the quality of life and outcomes for patients with immune disorders through cutting edge, multidisciplinary research.

Goals of The William T. Shearer Center for Human Immunobiology

Intellectual growth:

Develop a central hub drawing from expertise throughout Texas Children’s Hospital and Baylor College of Medicine to propel investigations that will translate into high-impact discoveries and novel approaches to the understanding, diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of immune-related disease.

Technology and Innovation:

Establish a research center fully equipped with the latest state-of-the-art technologies and equipment for cutting edge scientific advancement.

Large and diverse biorepository:

Obtain, archive, distribute, and evaluate human blood and immune cell populations from healthy control populations and patients impacted by disease. This will provide an unprecedented resource that will generate new understanding of human immune disease.

International Impact:

Develop synergy with existing emphasis centers in genetics/genomics, international medicine, and cellular therapy to accelerate discovery and innovation.

Advancing the Future of Science:

Promote an environment dedicated to training, mentoring, and developing the next generation of scientists. This is essential to continue the momentum in discovering new diseases and therapies that will address critical health challenges.
