The research mission of the Department of Surgery is to conduct basic and translational research to move the field of Pediatric Surgery forward and improve the care of children.

As one of the largest children’s hospitals in the nation, Texas Children’s has a vast wealth of clinical data and experience in surgical disease that can guide efforts to develop high-impact technologies for pediatric surgery. Ongoing research in the department spans many fields, including:

  • Mechanisms of fibrotic disease
  • Wound healing
  • Pediatric cancer and novel therapeutics
  • Metastasis
  • Genetic basis of congenital defects
  • Clinical outcomes of surgical intervention
  • Pediatric medical devices

Our physician-scientists are committed to improving the surgical care of children utilizing both clinical and technical expertise to solve today’s most pressing surgical problems. We also welcome the opportunity to partner with researchers and clinicians from across the Texas Medical Center community to continue to advance the field of Pediatric Surgery.
