About Us Exclusive Breast Milk Feeding Rate

Why is exclusive breast milk feeding important?

Evidence shows that the higher the dose of human milk — especially mother’s own milk — a baby receives, the greater the health benefits.

What does the rate of exclusive breast milk feeding measure?

This chart shows the percent of babies born without any special medical needs who received only breast milk (no formula) during their whole newborn hospital stay.

What can you do as a parent or caregiver?

  • Breastfeed, or express your milk, early and often. Don’t hesitate to ask for help if you have any questions or concerns. Our lactation specialists will visit with you frequently and are here to support you.
  • Individual needs and situations can vary, and sometimes healthy, term newborns may need supplementary feedings.
