Get to know Xiaoming Guan, MD, PhD
Dr. Xiaoming Guan is the Division chief and fellowship director of Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery at Texas Children’s and a professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Baylor College of Medicine. Dr. Guan obtained his medical degree from Fujian Medical University in Fuzhou, Fujian, China and completed his residency in obstetrics and gynecology at St. Joseph’s Hospital, a Mount Sinai School of Medicine affiliated hospital in Paterson, New Jersey. Following his residency, he pursued a fellowship in minimally invasive gynecologic surgery at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston.
Dr. Guan has extensive experience treating complex and challenging cases of endometriosis, uterine fibroids, and pelvic masses at various stages. As a leader in minimally invasive gynecologic surgery, he is a pioneer in the use of state-of-the-art robotic single-site technology and traditional single-site surgery and transvaginal Natural Orifice Transluminal Endoscopic Surgery (NOTES) for advanced pelvic procedures. He also utilizes the single-site or NOTES surgical technique in the treatment of conditions such as cervical incompetence with abdominal cerclage, chronic pelvic pain with endometriosis, urinary incontinence with a sling and pelvic organ prolapse with sacrocolpopexy.
Recognizing the significance of collaboration, Dr. Guan adopts a multidisciplinary approach, involving specialists from various fields like colorectal surgery, thoracic surgery, and urology, to enhance patient care and outcomes when addressing advanced cases of endometriosis that affect the bowel, chest, and urological regions. His contributions extend beyond clinical practice as he serves on the editorial boards of the Journal of Minimally Invasive Gynecology, and he has authored over 120 publications.
