Personal Statement
Dr. Susan Raine, JD, LLM, MEd received her medical degree from Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas. Prior to entering medical school, Dr. Raine completed a Juris Doctor degree (JD) at the University of Texas School of Law in Austin, Texas. She has been a member of the State Bar of Texas since 1995. After completing her MD degree, Dr. Raine remained at Baylor College of Medicine for her residency training in Obstetrics and Gynecology which she completed in 2001. Dr. Raine received her board certification in OB/Gyn in 2007. She subsequently joined the Baylor Faculty and returned to obtain a Master's Degree in Health Law and Policy from the University of Houston Law Center in 2010 as well as her Master's of Education from University of Houston.
She is currently an Associate Professor at Baylor College of Medicine in the Departments of Obstetrics and Gynecology and the Center for Medical Ethics and Health Policy and the Vice Chairman of Global Health Initiatives and Residency Program Director in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. She is also enrolled in the Master's of Education Program at the University of Houston with a focus on Curriculum Design and anticipates degree completion in 2013.
Dr. Raine's professional interests span the full spectrum of medical education from medical student teaching, to resident and fellow training, and finally faculty development. In addition, Dr. Raine has an interest in global health and is working toward establishing global health training opportunities in OB/Gyn. Dr. Raine is actively involved in educational activities at Baylor College of Medicine and was recently admitted to the Academy of Distinguished Educators and as a faculty member in the School of Tropical Medicine. Dr. Raine is a nationally recognized educator who currently sits on the Association of Professors of Gynecology and Obstetrics board. Her clinical interests include general obstetrics and gynecology, uterine leiomyomata, and minimally invasive surgery, including robotics and in-office surgery.
