Dr. Haag's research focuses on using mass spectrometry to understand metabolic mechanisms in the human microbiome, particularly those associated with IBS and C. difficile infection. This also involves the development of diagnostic tests for IBS in children. Other areas of interest include using mass spectrometry as a rapid and qualitative method for determining antibiotic resistance of microorganisms within a mixed population and to understand the effects of antibiotics on the human microbiome. Dr. Haag serves as the Director of Metabolomics and Proteomics for Texas Children's Microbiome Center.
