We specialize in assessment and treatment of patients with acute and chronic medical illness, as well as those without medical illness in need of brief and targeted outpatient behavioral health care in a limited number of specific areas including diagnosis and treatment of disruptive behaviors in preschoolers (BBI), children with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder or complex anxiety disorders including Social Phobia, Selective Mutism, , Separation Anxiety, Panic, Health Anxiety, and diagnosis of ADHD for children up to age 6 years. Our psychologists specialize in implementing evidence based treatment in order to meet your family’s treatment goals.
In addition to our brief and targeted treatment of preschool disruptive behavior and various anxiety conditions, our psychologists also have expertise working with children and adolescents with complex medical conditions. We understand that when youth have a chronic or acute medical condition, the stress can exacerbate previous difficulties, lead to new difficulties, or result in problems with adjustment to a “new normal”. We provide care for those at Texas Children’s Hospital affected by medical illnesses and injuries. We work with a variety of medical clinics to help youth manage psychosocial challenges associated with their illness and accompanying emotional or behavioral concerns, assist with self management of symptoms related to their illness and treatment (such as nausea and pain), and improve adherence to their treatment regimen. In addition to working with the child, adolescent or young adult and their family, our comprehensive care typically also involves collaborating with the medical team to further support the patient’s health and well-being.
Our team of licensed psychologists and psychology trainees work with children, adolescents, and young adults on both an inpatient and outpatient basis. Patients come from our Texas Children’s Pediatrics colleagues, as well as a variety of medical clinics, including Endocrinology, Hematology/Oncology, Trauma/Surgery, Bariatric Surgery, Plastic Surgery, Gender Medicine, Gynecology, Neurology, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Retrovirology, Pulmonology, Rhematology, Dermatology, Allergy and Immunology, Cardiology, Anesthesiology, Nephrology (Renal), Transplant Services, among others.
