Modern medicine has improved the lives of children born with congenital heart disease to the point that today, most congenital heart disease patients are adults. Your complex heart history deserves a cardiology team that not only understands the nuances of congenital heart conditions and your past procedures, but also can offer new therapies to expand and improve your life. 

While adult cardiologists may be unfamiliar with the cardiac anatomy of an adult who underwent a complex heart surgery as a child, pediatric cardiologists may be unfamiliar with managing adult diseases, such as coronary artery disease, obesity or high cholesterol. The Texas Children’s Adult Congenital Heart Program is proud to blend our pediatric cardiac surgery experience with adult cardiology so that you receive optimal heart care. Because our doctors are trained in pediatrics, adult medicine and heart disease, they’re prepared to manage and prevent complications of adult congenital heart disease (ACHD) with excellent results. We welcome patients from around the world for both standalone consultations and ongoing care. Our team also has unique expertise in assessing and managing risks women with ACHD may face during pregnancy. We recommend that all adults with CHD see a cardiologist who understands CHD to keep your heart healthy. 

Our Facility

We are proud to welcome patients to our 27,000-square-foot facility in the Lester and Sue Smith Legacy Tower — a space dedicated exclusively to ACHD patients and run by our ACHD team. Demand for the level of care that Texas Children’s can provide continues to grow, and this facility was built to meet those needs.
