Texas Children’s anesthesiologists write leading textbook in field
Anesthesiologist-in-Chief Dr. Dean Andropoulos and several members of his medical staff edited and wrote Anesthesia for Congenital Heart Disease, 3rd Edition. The textbook was released in 2016 and is the leading reference source for the field. Andropoulos conceived the idea for this book in 2001, and since the first edition was published in 2005, readership has increased significantly around the world and identified Texas Children’s Hospital Pediatric Cardiovascular Anesthesiology as one of the major sources for education in this highly complex field.
The new edition contains 32 chapters, more than 800 pages, and for the first time is in full color. The book also comes with full electronic access to the text, which covers the entire field of anesthesia for congenital heart disease. New chapters addressing pulmonary hypertension and anesthetic neurotoxicity have been added and all chapters have been thoroughly updated.
“It was a privilege to create this very important text,” Andropoulos said. “This textbook is being studied by thousands of anesthesiologists around the world and has contributed significantly to better knowledge, care, and outcomes of infants, children and young adults undergoing anesthesia for congenital heart disease.”
