Texas Children’s Fellow Honored with ASH Abstract Achievement Award

Health Briefs

Camila Pabon, MD, a pediatric hematology-oncology fellow at Texas Children’s Cancer & Hematology Center, has been awarded the 2025 ASH Abstract Achievement Award for her research presented at the 67th American Society of Hematology (ASH) Annual Meeting in Orlando, Florida.

Dr. Pabon’s abstract, Outcome Disparities Among Survivors of Hematologic Malignancies Diagnosed in Childhood, examines long-term challenges faced by childhood cancer survivors and highlights barriers to accessing lifelong survivorship care. Her analysis of 654 leukemia and lymphoma survivors in the SALUD cohort revealed that while most report good health, access to specialized care remains uneven—affected by underinsurance, geographic distance, and confidence in primary care providers. These findings underscore the need for shared-care models and community partnerships to improve outcomes.

The ASH Abstract Achievement Award recognizes outstanding research contributions by trainees and includes a $500 honorarium. Dr. Pabon will present her work during the ASH Annual Meeting, held December 6–9, 2025.

Other authors from the Texas Children’s Cancer & Hematology Center include Drs. Lisa Kahalley, M. Monica Gramatges and Juan Carlos Bernini. Read the abstract here: https://meetings-api.hematology.org/api/abstract/vmpreview/301539
