Dr. Sharon Plon Honored with Baylor’s Top Mentorship Award

Dr. Sharon Plon has been named the recipient of the 2025 Arthur L. Beaudet Outstanding Mentorship Award by the Department of Molecular and Human Genetics at Baylor College of Medicine. This prestigious honor is Baylor’s only school-wide award recognizing a lifetime of mentorship across research, education, and clinical care.
Dr. Plon’s influence spans generations of trainees, from graduate students to junior faculty, many of whom now lead their own programs. The award will be formally presented on October 7, followed by a lecture delivered by Dr. Plon.
This award is one among many that speak to her excellence—her mentorship and scientific contributions have been recognized by institutions across the country, including the NIH, Memorial Sloan Kettering, Dana-Farber, and the University of Washington.
Dr. Plon holds a Professorship in the Departments of Pediatrics and Molecular and Human Genetics at the Dan L Duncan Comprehensive Cancer Center at Baylor College of Medicine. She serves as Assistant Dean in the School of Medicine and leads as Director of the Cancer Genetics Clinics and Co-Director of the Cancer Genetics and Genomics Program at Texas Children’s Cancer and Hematology Center.
