A coronal scar two years after craniosynostosis repair
- The coronal scar is the most common incision used in craniofacial surgery
- It is designed to give safe access to the skull while hiding the scar in the hair
- The scar starts an inch above the ear and slightly toward the back
- It zig-zags over the top of the head and down to the other side
- The zig-zags make sure that the scar is hidden by hair, even when the hair is wet
- We use the coronal scar for open cranial vault remodeling for craniosynostosis, Le Fort 3 midface distraction, C3DO, and LF2ZR surgeries.
