Personal Statement
My philosophy of care is to provide each child or adolescent with the most advanced medical care, in an individualized and comprehensive manner, to ensure their health and wellbeing. I promote shared decision making with the youth, in an age-appropriate manner, and their family.
My clinical activity focuses in the care of children with diabetes, including type 1, type 2 and other types of diabetes.
The overall goal of my research is the prevention of diabetes and its progression. I am interested in discovering the genetic and environmental causes of diabetes that can be leveraged for prevention and treatment. I also work to understand how to optimize clinical outcomes in pediatric diabetes.
Active Funded Research Projects:
- Type 1 diabetes genetic risk scores for the diagnosis of diabetes type in children of diverse racial and ethnic background (NIH NIDDK 1R01DK124395-01A1, PI Redondo)
- Type 1 diabetes genetic risk score in TrialNet (NIH NIDDK 1 R01 DK121843-01, PI Redondo)
- TrialNet Affiliate Clinical Center (NIH, site PI Tosur, Redondo’s role: Co-investigator)
- Center for Identification and Study of Individuals with Atypical Diabetes Mellitus (U54). Rare and Atypical Diabetes Network (RADIANT) (NIH 1 U54 DK118638, site PI Redondo)
