I am a general pediatric cardiologist. I was one of the pioneers in the development of the field of pediatric echocardiography and recently received the Founder's award from the American Society of Echocardiography.I was also quite involved in the early days of interventional catheterization. My present emphasis is on the effects of neuromuscular disease on the heart. This is the main area of my present clinical care, publications, and research direction. I am quite interested in teaching the next generation to develop critical thinking and careful attention to understanding the pathophysiology of heart disease with particular emphasis on seeing to the needs of each individual patient. As part of that teaching emphasis I have been the lead editor of the main textbook in pediatric cardiology for its last 3 editions.
