Personal Statement
Ms. Andrea Simon is part of Baylor College of Medicine’s autism research team at the Texas Children’s Hospital Autism Center and the Meyer Center for Developmental Pediatrics. She first became involved in autism research as an undergraduate student at Emory University, where she studied Psychology and Education. After graduating with her B.A., she gained hands on experience as a registered behavior technician doing applied behavior analysis in a pediatric therapy center for children with autism. She joined Dr. Robin P. Goin-Kochel’s research lab in March of 2016 as a research coordinator for the SPARK for Autism research study, and focuses primarily on connecting families with meaningful research studies and supporting them throughout their SPARK participation. She also is involved with developing research-related outreach activities at the Autism Center and the Meyer Center Andrea enjoys being part of large, collaborative, multi-site projects that bring together leading hospitals, clinics, and teams from all over to address important questions about autism. A particular research interest for Andrea is how families hear about research opportunities and why they choose to participate.
“The Texas Children’s Hospital’s Mission Statement is to ‘create a healthier future for children and women throughout our global community by leading in patient care, education and research.’ Research is a definitive part of our mission at both Baylor and Texas Children’s—much of this research would not be possible without the inspiring families who give back to their communities by choosing to participate, and by doing so help researchers to answer important questions. I love working being able to work hands-on with families and patients in meaningful ways through research, and through collaborative efforts with the other amazing teams at the Autism Center and Meyer Center."
