Personal Statement
Dr. Sillitoe is interested in understanding how neural circuits are formed. His primary focus is to elucidate the cellular and molecular mechanisms that determine circuit assembly in the motor system. Diseases of interest include ataxia, dystonia, Parkinson’s disease, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and autism spectrum disorders. Sophisticated mouse genetics, in vivo electrophysiology, high-resolution neuroanatomy, and classic embryology are being used to unveil mechanisms of brain wiring in health and disease. Dr. Sillitoe serves as the Director of the Neuropathology Core located in the Jan and Dan Duncan Neurological Research Institute of Texas Children’s Hospital.
