At Texas Children’s Pediatrics, we understand the importance of feeling completely comfortable with your child’s primary care physician. To help you get to know our pediatricians better, we decided to sit down with them and do a short Q&A.

What are your hobbies?
When I'm not at work, I'm usually doing something musical. I play piano and flute. I also sing and write songs. I love singing in choir at church. Fun fact: some of the songs I wrote have been on Billboard charts.
Tell us what you love about working around kids.
I love the energy kids have. It's the smile or hug you get from them even when they're sick. I love having the opportunity to really impact their lives, not only by taking care of their illnesses and keeping them healthy, but also by being a role model for them as they grow up.
Are you originally from Houston? If not, where are you from?
Yes, I am a native Houstonian, born at Herman Hospital in the Texas Medical Center.
Have you ever gone out of the country? If so, where was your favorite place?
I have been fortunate to travel quite a bit outside the country, but my favorite place is actually right here in the United States. Maui is my happy spot! I love snorkeling, whale watching and eating some macadamia nut pancakes!
Where did you attend school?
I graduated from Yale University for both college and medical school. Class of 1995 for undergrad and 1999 for medical school.
What brought you into medicine?
In fourth grade, our assignment for parents’ night at school was to write about what we wanted to be when we grew up. I already had it figured out. At the age of nine I wrote, "My name is Sherri Sandifer. When I grow up, I want to be a pediatrician." I went on to write about why it was important to me to help keep kids healthy and to help them get well when they are sick. After all these years, that's what I’m still committed to doing.
What’s your best advice on staying healthy?
Having a good sleep routine and getting quality sleep is paramount to staying healthy. Without adequate sleep, we make poorer choices, have trouble focusing, trouble learning and processing information, trouble regulating our emotions, trouble maintaining a healthy weight and trouble fighting off illness. That goes for grownups as well as children. Of course, having a healthy diet and regular exercise are important too, but we all need to make time to get some good sleep so we can stay healthy and be ready for the next day.
How long have you worked at Texas Children’s Pediatrics?
I have worked at Texas Children's Pediatrics since 2002.
Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
In 10 years, I'll still be taking care of the next generation of kids out there, making sure that they are staying healthy, getting smarter every day and getting some good sleep at night.
