Dr.Roy V. Sillitoe, a professor of Pathology & Immunology, Neuroscience, and Pediatrics at Baylor College of Medicine, and a principal investigator at the Jan and Dan Duncan Neurological Research Institute (Duncan NRI) at Texas Children’s Hospital, was recently selected to serve on a national advisory council for the National Institute for Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS), an institute of the National Institute of Health.
“It is a huge honor to be selected to the National Advisory Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NANDS) Council, which is the only body to advise and set the research direction for NINDS,” said Dr. Sillitoe who also holds the Chao Family Endowed Chair.
Each Institute of the National Institutes of Health maintains a national advisory council that has two general functions. The first is to advise the Institute on policy and procedures affecting the extramural research programs and the second is to provide a second level of review for all grant and cooperative agreement applications considered by the Institute for funding. “Roy is a fantastic neuroscientist and an outstanding mentor to the next generation of scientists. He will be a tremendous addition to the NANDS Council and will make impactful contributions to the future direction of neuroscience,” said Dr. Huda Zoghbi, who is a distinguished service professor at Baylor College of Medicine, the founding director of the Duncan NRI, and a Howard Hughes Medical Institute investigator.
“I am most excited to serve the greater scientific community on a national level and help set the vision for the future of neuroscience,” Dr. Sillitoe added. “I feel truly humbled to be among the few scientists chosen to advance the great culture of innovation in our country.”
