HOUSTON, TX – (September 27, 2021) – Today, Texas Children’s Hospital President and CEO, Mark A. Wallace, issued a statement in support of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and Centers for Disease Control (CDC) recommendation for people 65 and older, as well as individuals 18-64 with any underlying health condition or occupational risk of exposure to COVID-19, to receive a booster of the Pfizer Covid-19 vaccine.  Texas Children’s is grateful that CDC Director Dr. Walensky endorsed a booster dose for people whose occupation or work setting may pose an increased risk of exposure to COVID-19, recognizing the need to further protect our health care workers, teachers and frontline workers who have tirelessly supported our community throughout this pandemic.

“The ability to provide boosters for our workforce is key in maintaining a healthy infrastructure so we may continue providing the highest quality care to our patients and the community, as we collectively work together to combat this pandemic," said Wallace.

Texas Children’s began administering the Pfizer Covid-19 vaccine booster on Saturday, September 25th.  All eligible individuals may now schedule an appointment by accessing the Texas Children’s website. Following CDC guidance, Texas Children’s will administer boosters for the Pfizer Covid-19 vaccine only and remains hopeful for Moderna and Johnson & Johnson Covid-19 vaccine boosters to become available in the near future.

Texas Children’s Hospital remains committed to the safety and well-being of its patients and continues to lead the way with equitable vaccinations across the pediatric population.  Since Texas Children’s began administering the Pfizer vaccine on December 15, 2020, more than 155,000 Covid-19 vaccine doses have been administered to the Texas Children’s workforce, patients and in the community.
