Dr. David Poplack Receives Lifetime Achievement Award

Dr. David Poplack, former Director of Texas Children’s Cancer & Hematology Center and Distinguished Emeritus Professor at Baylor College of Medicine, has been named the 2025 recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award by the International Society of Pediatric Oncology (SIOP) 

This recognition honors Dr. Poplack’s decades-long impact on pediatric oncology and global health. It also reflects the vision, goals and mission he helped establish—principles that continue to guide our Center’s work today and are embodied every day in the dedication of our faculty and staff.

Dr. Poplack led the Center at Texas Children’s for 25 years, transforming it into one of the largest pediatric hematology/oncology programs in the U.S. He later founded Global HOPE, extending care to children across sub-Saharan Africa. His legacy includes pioneering survivorship care through the Passport for Care®, advancing medical education, and mentoring countless pediatric oncologists. In 2023, he was also honored with the Excellence in Teaching Award by the American Society of Clinical Oncology.
