Personal Statement
Dr. Prathyusha Vangala is a native Houstonian who came back to Texas Children’s after finishing her residency at University of Mississippi and fellowship at The University of Texas in child and adolescent psychiatry.
She is extremely passionate about working with children and adolescents. In her role on the consult-liaison service, she collaborates with pediatricians and other subspecialists to provide care for patients with psychiatric and general medical conditions. She enjoys the multidisciplinary aspect of the consult service and the ability to use different treatment modalities in children with complex medical conditions.
Dr. Vangala is committed to contributing to public mental health by working on mental health policy and advocacy initiatives. She deeply cares about reducing the stigma in mental health and raising awareness about psychiatry using policy as a tool. She uses this opportunity to work with patients from diverse backgrounds and always looks out for opportunities to give back to the community. She also enjoys engaging with residents and fellows in an academic setting where she strives to foster an environment of collaboration, inclusivity and openness to ideate, thus establishing a safe place for learning.
