Dr. Michael C. Braun, a nationally recognized expert in pediatric kidney disease, has been named chief of nephrology at Texas Children's Hospital and section head of nephrology within the department of pediatrics at Baylor College of Medicine (BCM).

Dr. Braun comes to Texas Children's Hospital and BCM from the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston where he served as the chief of nephrology and hypertension in the department of pediatrics. Dr. Braun will be instrumental in shaping Texas Children's Renal Center, which is ranked no. 4 in the nation by U.S. News World Report.

"Dr. Michael Braun is an outstanding, nationally recognized clinician, educator and investigator, and we are happy to have him lead our pediatric nephrology program," said Dr. Mark W. Kline, physician-in-chief at Texas Children's Hospital and chair of pediatrics at BCM. "The selection of Dr. Braun follows a national search. Sometimes we travel to the other side of the globe to find outstanding leaders. In other cases, we find the best individual for the job right up the street as we did with Dr. Braun."

A leader in pediatric nephrology, Dr. Braun is an active NIH-funded investigator with focused research efforts in autoimmune renal diseases, and he also serves as the assistant editor for the American Journal of Nephrology and section editor for the Journal of Pediatric Nephrology.

He has received numerous awards for his contributions to teaching and medical practice, including the Dean's Award for Teaching Excellence at the University of Texas Health Science Center.

Dr. Braun received his medical degree from University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine and completed his pediatric residency training at Northwestern University School of Medicine, followed by postdoctoral fellowship training in pediatric nephrology at Cincinnati Children's Hospital and research training in immunology at the National Institutes of Health.
