Baylor Teen Health Clinic

Initially founded as a once-a-week adolescent maternity service, the Baylor Teen Health Clinic continues to grow to meet the community’s pressing need for teen pre-natal care and education, follow-up family planning and primary care. Today the clinics are comprised of a ten-clinic system providing primary and reproductive care and health care education to indigent/medically underserved adolescents and young adults (males and females 13-25) at little to no cost.

The clinics are located in areas readily accessible to the population served — including four Houston Independent School District campuses and one charter school — and offer family planning, wellness and sports health checkups, STD screening and treatment, prenatal care and counseling services, all provided in a manner that is respectful and relevant to young people. In addition, evidence-based initiatives including Centering Pregnancy, Nurse Family Partnership and Project Bootstrap reinforce continuity of care in a medical home format.

A unique, teen-friendly website, www.teenhealthclinic.org, describes the programs and services offered; many are geared toward helping young women and couples manage teen pregnancy, offering prenatal care, parental education and counseling to promote the development of stable, nurturing relationships that stop the cycle of family disintegration and reduce the risk of abuse and infant mortality. This electronic platform also provides an interactive blog with the clinic's avatars, Tye and Taft, to provide accurate, confidential information on a variety of health-related questions.

Combined with a GPS locator, this website is an easy-to-use resource for at-risk youth who seek medical care.
