Bereavement Support Navigating grief

Beginning the grieving process

Grief is a natural response to the death of someone you love. It can bring many emotions and experiences, and each person’s grief journey is unique. There is no right or wrong way to grieve, and healing often happens at a different pace for everyone.

This section offers information and resources to help you better understand grief and find support along the way. Here you will find guidance about common grief experiences, ways families and children may cope with loss, and resources that may provide comfort, connection, and understanding during this time.

While grief can feel overwhelming, support is available. If at any point you feel you may benefit from additional help, you may consider speaking with a counselor, therapist, or other mental health professional who can help you process your feelings and provide additional support.

If you need assistance finding support, you can contact your primary care provider or a local medical center. You may also reach the 24-hour Crisis Hotline from the Harris Center for Mental Health and IDD at 713-970-7000 (option 1).
