Prepping your child
Prepare your child for the visit as much as possible.
If you know what the appointment will involve, tell your child in advance that he or she is going to the doctor and what will be done during the visit.
Insurance
Bring identification, such as a driver’s license and a current copy of the insurance card that covers your child.
Medications
Bring a list of all medications your child is taking, including over-the-counter and prescription drugs, and include the dosage and strength for each.
Medical records/immunizations
For our providers to provide the best care coordination for your child, it is very important we receive comprehensive health information about your child’s past and current health.
Please bring all of your child’s previous medical records and request that any additional records from previous providers are sent to our office. These include immunization records, growth charts, medical diagnosis notes, etc.
Also, it is very important to update us on any medical care your child currently receives outside of our office. If your child is treated elsewhere, please request that all reports, including urgent care or emergency center summaries, X-rays and laboratory results, are sent to our office.
Note taking
- Write down any questions or concerns you have for the pediatrician and bring them with you.
- If your child is sick, record any symptoms he or she is having, including when they started and their frequency.
- Take notes. Writing down instructions or advice will help you remember them later.

Canceling an appointment
Thank you for helping us make a difference for families in our community.
As the demand for care continues to grow across Texas Children’s Pediatrics locations, we kindly ask that patients and families review their appointment details carefully and notify us as soon as possible if they are unable to attend. We understand that plans can change, and we are always happy to work with you to reschedule at a time that better meets your family’s needs.
When appointments are canceled in advance, we can offer that time to another child who is waiting to be seen, helping families access timely care and potentially avoid an urgent care or emergency room visit.
To help us provide timely access to care for all patients:
- Appointments can be quickly and easily canceled through your child’s MyChart account up to two hours before the scheduled appointment time.
- If it is less than two hours before your appointment, please call your practice directly to notify us of the cancellation.
