Research Careers at Texas Children’s

Texas Children’s offers its investigators an unparalleled environment in which to conduct children’s and women’s health research. We’re the nation’s largest children’s hospital, a prominent obstetrical care provider, and the main pediatric and OB/GYN training site for Baylor College of Medicine. We’re also located in the Texas Medical Center—the largest medical and health center in the world—creating countless opportunities for cross-institutional collaboration, creativity, and innovation. Learn about our research institutes, our ample resources, and how to join us in making a difference for patients everywhere.

Our Research Institutes

Texas Children's Research Institute

The Texas Children's Research Institute is a multidisciplinary hub for biomedical research across the Texas Children's healthcare system, reimagining research to advance disease prevention, diagnosis, and treatment. Its five specialized Discovery Research Centers each pursue groundbreaking early-stage discoveries, its six Precision Medicine domains translate that research into personalized treatments, and its clinical investigators bring these advances to our clinics and hospital campuses—a seamless pipeline from innovation to patient care.

The Jan and Dan Duncan Neurological Research Institute

The Jan and Dan Duncan Neurological Research Institute offers a multidisciplinary, collaborative environment to facilitate fundamental discoveries in neuroscience, paving the way for new therapies. It's currently home to 43 Principal Investigators, 400+ scientists, and 10 core labs. The Duncan NRI also houses the Gordon and Mary Cain Pediatric Neurology Research Foundation Laboratories, which are focused on epilepsy research, and Baylor College of Medicine's Center for Drug Discovery, which seeks to quickly identify small molecules and advance them to clinical trials.

Resources for Researchers

We offer our investigators comprehensive research support to advance scientific discovery, enhance research quality, and maximize funding. Learn about our Center for Research Advancement, core facilities, Data Science Hub, Research Faculty Mentorship Program, writing support, and much more.

Research Vision Scholars

We're building one of the nation’s premier environments for pediatric and women’s health research, and each year, we recruit five to seven exceptional researchers to become Texas Children’s Research Vision Scholars. If you have outstanding scientific accomplishments and a commitment to advancing the health of children or women—whether as a biologist, chemist, physicist, engineer, computational scientist, epidemiologist, or clinical investigator—we want to hear from you. Prior work in pediatrics or obstetrics is not required.

A Vibrant Place to Live and Work

As the nation's fourth largest city and its most ethnically diverse, Houston is an attractive place to live. The city—and the broader Harris County region—are fast growing and cosmopolitan, with an exceptional quality of life for professionals and families. World-class dining features thousands of restaurants representing global cuisines, while the thriving arts and culture scene includes 19 museums, the Houston Symphony, the Houston Ballet, and a vibrant Theater District. Residents enjoy urban green spaces like Hermann Park and Memorial Park, Gulf Coast beaches less than an hour away, professional sports teams across all major leagues, top-rated schools, and a relatively affordable cost of living compared to other major metropolitan areas.
