The Cerebral Palsy Clinic at Texas Children's Hospital provides comprehensive evaluation and treatment for children with cerebral palsy (CP) and related conditions affecting coordination, positioning, mobility, development, learning and seizures. Led by Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R), the clinic brings together specialists from PM&R, Neurology and Developmental Pediatrics and Autism for a coordinated, multidisciplinary visit with each child. During a single appointment, physicians collaborate to clarify diagnosis, manage associated conditions, and connect families with schooling recommendations and community resources.
Cerebral palsy is a group of motor disorders that appear in infancy or early childhood. It affects muscle tone, posture and movement. The underlying brain injury does not get worse over time, but the way it affects the body can change as a child grows.
CP varies widely in severity. Some children have mild coordination or strength difficulties. Others have significant limitations in independent mobility. About 2 to 3 children out of every 1,000 have cerebral palsy.
