The right care at the right place at the right time

Texas Children’s Hospital is the only freestanding Level I pediatric trauma center in the region, which means our physicians and nurses are uniquely prepared to care for patients with serious and life-threatening injuries with access to specialized surgeons day or night. Across Texas, we offer additional trauma centers at The Woodlands, West Campus and North Austin Campus with access to multidisciplinary specialists and around-the-clock care.

We build our trauma teams with children and adolescents in mind. Our medical professionals, including emergency medicine physicians, trauma surgeons and physical and occupational therapists, all have specialized pediatric training, which means they’re keenly aware of the way growing bodies and changing developmental milestones will affect each child’s recovery. Trauma nursing staff also receive frequent specialized training for each of the trauma units. These Trauma Core Team nurses have an in-depth focus on pediatric trauma care and serve as clinical experts on their units.

Across the Texas Children’s system, our approach to trauma care relies on immediate and effective diagnosis and treatment at the time of injury as well as consistent follow-up throughout a child’s recovery. All our trauma surgeons work in the hospital and our trauma clinics, so your child can see the same surgeon in follow-up who managed their initial injuries. Children and families have access to a wealth of surgical, medical, therapeutic and psychological support through our multidisciplinary partners.

Education is our passion

Information for parents

From preventing injuries to understanding your child’s treatment plan, our goal is to give parents the tools they need to best care for a child’s health.

Information for healthcare professionals

Trauma care can’t happen without teamwork that starts before a child arrives at the hospital and ends after their final follow-up visit. We support all the medical professionals who are a part of that journey through training and continuing education programs.

Always looking forward

We work to improve the life of the next patient we see through research initiatives.

Teamwork is an essential component of trauma care, and since any part of the body can be involved in an injury, we work closely with many other specialists across Texas Children’s. From the Kangaroo Crew, which travels regionally and internationally to transport sick children, to our Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit , which cares for children who are stable but not yet well enough to go home, you have access to industry-leading professionals throughout your child’s recovery.

Achieving the best possible outcome

Repairing unexpected injuries and supporting our patients as they recover.
