Histiocytosis Program

Histiocytosis Program

The largest dedicated histiocytosis program in the United States

What Sets Us Apart

At the Judy and Henry Sauer, Jr. Histiocytosis Program, we see approximately 150 new patients and follow more than 1,000 active cases, including individuals from five continents. Families from across five continents travel to Houston for our expertise, innovative treatments and comprehensive care.

To address the unmet needs of children with complex hematologic and immunologic disorders, we established the iLEAD (Immune Dysregulation and Lymphoproliferation) Clinic. This multi-disciplinary clinic, co-directed by Dr. Allen and Dr. Forbes-Satter, supports the diagnosis and treatment of patients with rare or difficult-to-treat conditions related to immune function and cancer risk.

Key characteristics that distinguish our program:

 • Our world-renowned specialists and dedicated histiocytic disorders program deliver exceptional, individualized care through advanced treatments, as well as insights into rare disease patterns
 • Through a collaborative care model, patients can receive treatment in Houston or consult with us while continuing care with their local physicians
 • We lead national research and clinical trials that are transforming histiocytosis care—developing targeted, personalized therapies and redefining the standard of treatment
 • We co-founded the North American Consortium for Histiocytosis (NACHO) and maintain the NACHO-BIO biorepository to support multi-center and global studies
