Areas of Research Adolescent Hematology and Gynecology

We advance the reproductive health of girls and women across the lifespan through cutting‑edge clinical and scientific research.

Physicians at Texas Children’s Cancer and Hematology Center are nationally recognized for innovative research and therapies for blood disorders. Supported by government grants and philanthropic partnerships, this work aligns closely with our program’s focus on bleeding disorders and adolescent health.

Our Research Directly Informs and Strengthens Patient Care

Our research spans a diverse range of pediatric and adolescent gynecologic conditions, including congenital anomalies of the reproductive tract, disorders of sexual development, paratubal cysts, polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), labial adhesions, and lichen sclerosis.

Key clinical research efforts focus on improving diagnosis and treatment of bleeding disorders, iron deficiency, adolescent hormonal disorders, genital warts in children, and heavy menstrual bleeding. We also have a special interest in minimally invasive pediatric surgery.

Additional projects promote healthy lifestyle choices and reproductive health education for adolescent girls. We also specialize in caring for the gynecologic needs of developmentally delayed patients and are expanding tissue-banking initiatives for pediatric gynecologic cancers and rare conditions.

Our Leadership Drives Collaboration and Training

Our team regularly presents at national meetings, including the North American Society for Pediatric and Adolescent Gynecology (NASPAG), and has published more than two dozen peer-reviewed articles. Through collaboration with other pediatric gynecology fellowship programs, we participate in cutting-edge multi-institutional research. Each year, our research team includes two fellows, three to four residents, and four to six students. For information about educational opportunities, please call 832-826-7464.
