Stem Cell Transplant Inpatient Unit (After Hours/Weekends) 832-826-0860
Our Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) / Stem Cell Transplant Inpatient Unit is the largest of its kind in the Southwest. Designed with comfort in mind, the rooms are playfully decorated and because of an innovative air-handling system, there's no need for patients or their visitors to wear a mask.
Our 25 bed Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) / Stem Cell Transplant Unit is located on the 7th and 8th floors of the West Tower.
The inpatient transplant unit is uniquely designed with children's needs in mind. A specialized HEPA air-filtration system allows children to safely leave their rooms and roam freely in the BMT unit with limited risk of contracting infections. This allows them to socialize in a cheerful home-like environment, which includes a playroom, complete with toys, and several family rooms.
The Bone Marrow Transplant Outpatient Clinic provides diagnosis, treatment and follow-up care of patients who are in need of or have received a hematopoietic stem cell transplant.
The Bone Marrow Transplant outpatient clinic is centrally located on the 8th floor of the West Tower at Texas Children's Hospital, in the Texas Medical Center. This convenient location is also home to the Bone Marrow Transplant Unit.
The outpatient clinic facilities include 6 state-of-the-art exam rooms and 6 infusion bays. 2 of the exam rooms are equipped with negative pressure airflow for our patients with weakened immune systems. The dedicated nursing staff is fully cross-trained for inpatient and outpatient services.
Our GMP Facility
The engine behind advanced cell and gene therapies
A Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) facility is a highly regulated laboratory where living cell and gene therapies are developed, tested, and prepared. Our on-site GMP facility is a powerful but often unseen part of care—transforming discoveries from the laboratory into real treatments for children and families.
Precision and the Art of Living Therapies
Manufacturing cell-based therapies requires far more than technical process—it demands expertise, judgment, and constant attention.
Inside the GMP facility, highly trained teams carefully monitor cell cultures, interpret real-time data, and make informed adjustments based on how cells grow and respond.
By developing therapies on site within the hospital, we can shorten the path from discovery to treatment, maintain rigorous quality oversight, and keep therapy development closely connected to the patients who need it most.
This work is supported by close, daily collaboration between manufacturing teams, clinicians, and researchers who share responsibility for patient outcomes.
Advancing Innovation and Expanding Access for Families
Having this level of GMP capability within our hospital enables the development of therapies that may not be available elsewhere. The facility supports a wide range of investigator initiated clinical trials and novel treatment approaches, helping families access options that go beyond standard care.
This integrated model also supports faster refinement of therapies and more responsive problem solving—an important advantage for children with urgent or complex conditions. Families from across the country and around the world come to our hospital for these specialized capabilities. The Center for Cell and Gene Therapy GMP facility continues to drive innovation that is firmly rooted in patient care at Texas Children’s Hospital.
