Colorectal and Pelvic Health Program

Colorectal and Pelvic Health Program

Children with congenital or acquired conditions of the colon, rectum and genitourinary tract receive lifechanging, comprehensive care from the Colorectal and Pelvic Health Program at Texas Children’s.

Our nationally and internationally known team of physicians from multiple disciplines specializes in pediatric surgeryurologypediatric and adolescent gynecology and gastroenterology.

These experts achieve the best possible outcomes and greatly improve the quality of life for children with complex and rare conditions that include anorectal and cloacal malformationsHirschsprung disease, bladder and cloacal exstrophy, chronic idiopathic constipation, fecal incontinence and soiling. Many of these disorders involve complications of the entire pelvis, which includes the urinary tract, internal sex organs and genitalia, and they can affect the child from birth into adolescence.

Aspects unique to our program include:

 • Our bowel management team helps parents manage the child’s fecal incontinence and soiling, so the whole family can achieve greater independence, emotional, and mental well-being.
 • Our use of minimally invasive and robotic surgical procedures provides better outcomes for the child as they provide less scarring, less pain and quicker recovery time.
 • Our team has experience operating on the most complex congenital anomalies.
 • We provide second opinions to help parents and health care providers make informed decisions about the child's treatment plan.
 • We have experience with redo procedures – Posterior Sagittal Anorectoplasty (PSARP) and pullthroughs – that restore bowel function after an initial surgery elsewhere.

We are committed to providing comprehensive care – both inpatient and outpatient – tailored to your child throughout his or her health journey. We customize individualized treatment plan to each child’s needs and adapt them as the child grows from infancy through childhood and adolescence.
