Texas Children’s West Marks 15 Years as Leading Pediatric Hospital—the First Facility of its Kind in West Houston

(HOUSTON, TX — March 5, 2026) — Texas Children’s is proud to announce the 15-year anniversary of Texas Children’s West, the first pediatric hospital along the I-10 Energy Corridor, serving more than 5 million total patients with compassionate[NB1] , leading pediatric care for children and families across West Houston and surrounding communities.
Notably, the hospital treated its first COVID-19 patient in our Special Isolation Unit, the first of its kind in the Southwest region, and designed specifically for children with highly contagious infectious diseases.

Among the many families impacted by Texas Children’s Hospital West since its earliest days is Katherine Go, now 27, who began receiving care at the hospital at age 12 for her genetic condition. As one of the campus’s early patients, Katherine and her family experienced firsthand the benefit of having advanced pediatric specialty care available close to home in West Houston.
“I grew up with Texas Children's Hospital West Campus,” said Katherine Go. “Starting my care there as a young girl gave me access to an incredible team who supported me every step of the way. Receiving that level of care in our own community meant everything to my family and me, and we are deeply grateful for all that Texas Children’s has provided over the years.”
Some key milestones in Texas Children’s West 15-year history:
2016: Helipad activated for fast air transport of critical pediatric patients with Texas Children’s Kangaroo Crew.
2018: First ECMO cases, a form of life support, and Texas Children's Urgent Care launched to broaden pediatric services.
2019: Sleep Center expanded, becoming one of the nation’s largest for children[NB1] [KC2] .
2021: Opened a multidisciplinary Pain Clinic.
