"The Sale" Raises Over $475k to Advance Pediatric Brain Tumor Research at Texas Children’s

Health Briefs

Houston shoppers are making an impact. Last month, The Sale raised more than $475,000 to benefit innovative medulloblastoma research led by Tamra Ogilvie, PhD. The three‑day shopping event featured more than 50 premier boutiques offering dramatic discounts, drawing over 1,800 attendees to the Bayou City Event Center to support a meaningful cause.

Medulloblastoma is the most common malignant pediatric brain tumor, known for its rapid growth and potential to spread throughout the central nervous system. Dr. Ogilvie’s laboratory at Texas Children’s is dedicated entirely to understanding these tumors at a molecular and cellular level, using advanced models and multi‑omics technologies to identify new therapeutic strategies. Her team has contributed key insights into tumor origin, stem‑cell behavior, and potential biomarkers that may one day guide more precise and less toxic treatments for young patients.

“We’re incredibly grateful to Houston Tri Delta Philanthropies, Inc. for hosting The Sale and choosing Texas Children’s Cancer and Hematology Center as this year’s beneficiary,” said Will Parsons, MD, PhD, director of Texas Children’s Cancer & Hematology Center. “Events like this do more than raise essential funds. They bring people together around a shared purpose: giving children and young adults facing brain cancer a better chance.”

Ahead of this year’s event, Dr. Ogilvie was featured in a Houston Life segment on KPRC 2, where she shared more about her ongoing research and expressed gratitude for the commitment to advancing pediatric cancer research. The discussion highlighted the essential role that philanthropy plays in enabling high‑impact, early‑stage scientific work.
