Texas Children's Cancer and Hematology Center CPRIT Funding Announcement

Research projects led by faculty at Texas Children's Cancer & Hematology Center (TXCH) have been awarded >$2.3 million by CPRIT.

Our faculty are also collaborating on projects led by Baylor College of Medicine (BCM). These projects aim to improve outcomes for children with cancer, and include the following:

• Dr. Lisa Kahalley (Assoc. Chief of Research, Psychology; Director, Neurobehavioral Oncology, TXCH) will study symptom burden, neurocognitive change, and functional outcomes in pediatric brain tumor patients treated with surgery versus surgery and chemotherapy. • Working with Dr. Ketan Ghaghada (BCM, Texas Children’s), Dr. Robin Parihar as a Principal Investigator will help advance a new method for non-invasively profiling neuroblastomas using nano-radiomics. This approach will be utilized to guide treatment decisions and improve the effectiveness of CAR-T cell-based immunotherapy for solid tumors. • Dr. Donald ‘Will’ Parsons (Interim Director, TXCH), along with Drs. Philip Lupo (Pediatrics, Emory University School of Medicine) and Stacey Pereira (Center for Medical Ethics and Health Policy, BCM), will implement newborn screening for pediatric cancer predisposition syndromes in Texas through the INSPECT Study.
