Dr. Jay Shah is a pediatric hematologist-oncologist with specialized training in stem cell transplantation and cellular therapies. He completed his pediatric hematology/oncology training in 2024, followed by advanced training in stem cell transplantation and cellular therapies in 2025. He joined the Cell Therapy and Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) Program at Texas Children’s Hospital after completing his fellowship training and is a member of the Center for Cell and Gene Therapy (CAGT). As a member of this team, Dr. Shah is responsible for caring for patients admitted to the inpatient BMT unit who undergo transplants for a wide range of malignant and non-malignant disorders.
Dr. Shah’s research has focused on translational approaches in the fields of Stem Cell Transplantation and Cellular therapies. Before his residency, he contributed to the development of predictive biomarkers for acute graft-versus-host disease (aGVHD) at the Mount Sinai Acute GVHD International Consortium (MAGIC) in New York City, to enable earlier intervention and risk stratification. During his fellowship at Texas Children’s Hospital, he investigated combination strategies to enhance the efficacy of Chimeric Antigen Receptor (CAR) T cell therapies in solid and central nervous system (CNS) tumors under the mentorship of Dr. Meenakshi Hegde. His work has been presented at regional and national meetings, including the American Society of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology (ASPHO).
In 2025, Dr. Shah joined the NIH-funded K12 Pediatric Oncology Clinical Research Training Program (POCRTP) as a scholar, where he will continue to advance his translational research in cellular immunotherapies for relapsed/refractory solid and CNS tumors.
