Texas Children’s Announces Opening of New Maternal-Fetal Medicine Clinic in Lakeway

News Release

(AUSTIN – February 4, 2026) — Texas Children’s announced the opening of its new Pavilion for Women and Specialty Care, a maternal fetal medicine clinic in Lakeway. This development is the first of its kind in the area, furthering the health system’s commitment to bringing specialized resources closer to families and expanding access to expert care throughout Austin and the Greater Central Texas region.

Lakeway's new clinic, which opened its doors on January 5th, provides specialized maternal-fetal care for complicated pregnancies. This means families in the area can access expert treatment locally without having to make trips into the city.

“There is a growing need for specialized maternal care in Central Texas,” said Dr. Melanie Belt, Chief of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Texas Children’s, Austin. “By opening this clinic in Lakeway, we are expanding our reach and ensuring that more families have timely access to expert maternal-fetal medicine services, while seamlessly connecting them to our broader system of care when advanced interventions are required.”

At the Lakeway clinic, services include evaluation, monitoring and management of conditions such as:

  • Pregnancies complicated by maternal diabetes
  • Pre-eclampsia and other hypertensive disorders of pregnancy
  • Referrals requiring advanced fetal imaging and in-depth fetal assessments
  • Ongoing monitoring of high-risk pregnancies using specialized ultrasound and fetal monitoring technology

Leigh Brasuel, a patient at the Lakeway clinic, said access to specialized care close to home made a meaningful difference for her and her family. “Knowing this level of specialized care was available so close to home was incredibly reassuring. The Lakeway clinic provided a safe, supportive environment when it mattered most.”

The clinic is staffed by a Maternal Fetal Medicine (MFM) specialist and equipped with advanced technologies, including high-tech ultrasound systems and fetal monitoring devices. These resources support comprehensive evaluations and continuous patient care.

The Lakeway site is the Texas Children’s Pavilion for Women’s second maternal-fetal medicine (MFM) clinic in Austin, with the first MFM clinic located at the hospital. Lakeway patients who need fetal intervention can be referred directly to Texas Children’s specialists at the hospital, allowing for seamless care between locations.

“Expanding access to specialized care is central to our mission of serving families where they live,” said Dr. Jeffrey Shilt, President of Austin and Central Texas, Texas Children’s. “The opening of our Maternal-Fetal Medicine clinic in Lakeway reflects our commitment to strengthening care across Central Texas by bringing advanced maternal expertise closer to home, while ensuring seamless access to the full capabilities of Texas Children’s when complex care is needed.”

This new clinic also strengthens partnerships with local providers—including those in Lakeway—by offering more appointments. With this expanded presence, Texas Children’s can accommodate more local patients and facilitate referrals from area healthcare professionals.

The Lakeway Maternal-Fetal Medicine Clinic reflects Texas Children’s ongoing commitment to increasing access to specialized care, supporting families during pregnancy and beyond, and addressing the changing needs of communities throughout Austin and Greater Central Texas.
